How do I find a student organization?

Finding a student organization is easy! All you have to do is go to OrgSync, log in, and select organizations at the top of the page. If you see one that you are interested in, contact the President or other representatives of the organization to get more information. Another great way to find organizations is to attend Campus Life Night in the fall.


How do I get involved?

Theres a variety of ways to get involved at GVSU. It all depends on how you want to get involved. To get involved with community service and leadership opportunities visit the Community Service Learning Center (CSLC). If you are looking for student involvement check out the Student Organization Center or look up student organizations on OrgSync.


How do I plan an event?

Planning an event is one of the best experiences at GVSU. Stop by the OSL and ask for event services or give them a call at (616) 331-2350. You can also visit the Event Services website or check out room reservations to start planning your event.


How do I find volunteer & community service opportunities?

Visit the Community Service Learning Center (CSLC) for a wide range of opportunities to serve as an individual or with a group, one-time or long-term opportunities, and much more!


How do I track my volunteer, community service, and philanthropic experiences?

Record your experiences on Service Tracker. Visit the CSLC's page for information and resources that will aid you in reporting your service experiences and building your service portfolio.


How do I plan a community service opportunity for my group?

Start by contacting the student consultants at the Community Service Learning Center (CSLC). They are trained to help groups explore options and connect with an opportunity.


How do I develop my leadership skills and abilities?

Participate in the Laker Leadership Programs and explore opportunities for development through Leadership University.


How do I recognize others for their leadership contributions?

Nominate a student for I am Grand Valley and other awards through the Student Life Awards (examples include most promising freshman, sophomore, and junior leader).


How do I get an I am Grand Valley t-shirt?

Nominees for I am Grand Valley receive a t-shirt annually in January. Note that you must RSVP for the I am Grand Valley Leadership Reception to actually receive one.


How do I get recognized for my contributions on campus?

Students are recognized on campus in a number of ways including the Student Life Awards (programming, organizational, and individual awards), I am Grand Valley, and more. Click here for more information. A number of other offices additionally recognize students with specific contributions to campus life such the Community Service Learning Center and Intersections.


Where can I find employment opportunities with the Office of Student Life?

Student life applications come out in the winter semester. Check your GVSU email for the application and follow the instructions in the email.
